A bridge is about connection, meeting, a crossing, enabling, something shifting and supporting; something solid or fleeting, stone, steel, rope, wood, ideas, actual bodies …

… or even those oft-praised notions of “community”, “solidarity”, “alliance”.

To build bridges is to use materials and flesh and ideas to get to one another, to reach each other across a gulf, to risk crossing via sometimes scarily rickety means, to put our very bodies on the line, and to learn together how to reinforce them and to build better ones so it won’t have to be so hard for the next ones.

If you want to build a bridge with me as a disabled person, then let’s do that. i’m totally into it, and i am too sore, too tired, too sick of waiting for people to even get to the shoreline of acknowledgement that there is even a divide to cross at…
